Vanessa LoBue, Ph.D., is a Professor and Chair of the Psychology Department at Rutgers University in Newark. She received her B.S. from Carnegie Mellon University and her M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Virginia. Her research focuses on emotional development in infants and young children and the general emotional wellbeing of children and families. She regularly publishes peer-reviewed research articles, she is the editor of The Handbook of Emotional Development (2019, Springer), and the Handbook of Emotional Development: Advances in Research, Theory, & Practice (2026, Springer), and has published two books, 9 Months in, 9 Months Out: A Scientist's Tale of Pregnancy and Parenthood (2019, Oxford), and Infancy: The Development of the Whole Child (Sage, 2024). She also writes a monthly blog on Psychology Today translating developmental research for parents. She was born and raised in New Jersey, and lives in Maplewood with her husband, two kids, and dog.
